Define the purpose of your website
The most important question to answer is the purpose of your website. Is it to inform potential clients about your business? To sell a product? To entertain? Whatever it may be, you’ll want to keep your answer in mind during each decision you make regarding your website to ensure that you accomplishing your purpose at all times.

Decide a domain name
Once you know the reason for your website you should be able to start thinking about the details. Do you have a domain name in mind? The challenge is, the domain name you may want may already be taken, so you may need to get creative. When possible choose a domain name that uses words or phases to describe your business. You’ll want to consider using the name of your business as your domain name if you are concerned with branding your company.

Decide a hosting company
After choosing a domain name you’ll need to decide who you’ll want to host your website. Think of hosting as a virtual file cabinet, your host holds and provides (serves) the files that make up your website for viewing. You’ll need to choose a host that is secure, reliable and one who has the right type of server that can host the type of website you want to create.

Now that you’ve answered the basic questions, you can start thinking about what you’d like to include in your website.

Write and gather content
What content will you need to ensure you are meeting your websites purpose?

Generally you’ll want to have at least:

When you are writing your about your business think about how you would speak about your business if you were face to face with someone.   How do you think they would describe what you do in just a few words?   Those few words (keywords) would be ones that you would want to include in your website content.

For example, when someone Google’s something like “website design rosemount” the search results should then generate a list of websites that include the keywords “website design rosemount” within the content of their website for your viewing.  Your websites goal is to have enough description about a particular subject that search engines find it relevant enough to list it on the top few pages of the search results.

Brainstorm: How would someone describe what your do or what you sell in just a few words?  What would they want to know about your product or service?  Then think about 1-3 word groups that best describe your product or service and use those words in your website content.

You can find keywords using a word, phrase, website URL or category with advanced options and filters for locations and languages.  The results are not even guaranteed by Google, because the whole idea here is to know your audience and how to speak their language so that when they search for your product or service they can find your website.
